If the above commands did not work either, you can try running this registry file and then try running the command again also. This fixed my problem on a Windows Server 2003 (SBS 2003). Uncheck the box to prevent this service to start and then press OK to finish. Thanks!! My Windows Updates began failing about 10 days ago and I've tried just about everything on the web including various Microsoft Fix It. Running Windows XP Pro SP3, I get the error number -2147013893 when I try and start the BITS Service in Windows and then if I try and start it in Dos check my blog Logged Shane Top Geek, err uh Dog.

Followed all instructions and FINALLY got BITS to start on my XP SP3 dinosaur.
