Shame the only way to get it to work again will be to downgrade my computer. The mail inbox doesn't seem to load from the server to the local inbox. This does not help an it seems to be a problem of yosemite mail. Just elect the check box DONE. check over here
I just paid almost $1600.00 dollars for my new iMac14 and i have to FIX MY MAIL MANUALLY (and possibly putting my security at risk)????? Tried a Lot and totally messed up my Laptop to the point I had to Restore the whole hard drive. and now I cant delete things. Click on the account for which SMTP is not functioning 4. I've spent about 4 hours on the phone to Apple Support and the same amount of time on the phone to support where my email is hosted and I'm getting nowhere. It seems one has to wait about half an hour, maybe 45 minutes, to see the changes taking effect. In either case, there is something wrong with your outgoing server settings.

In order to check the outgoing server's credentials go to Mail menu > Preferences > Accounts > find your Gmail account. Gmail Outgoing Mail Server Mac the first work through has sorted it out. Absolutely sickening! Can't get it fixed.

Dang! See “Note for old versions” below. If it's much better, then eventually just delete the inactive accounts in Mail / Accounts (or in System Preferences / Internet Accounts, which is the same settings). As I have no Yosemite installed here yet, I can't deal with the issue in deep detail, but I told Apple second level support about my findings already.
