What a shambles this is for a company that used to pride itself on releasing software only when it was usable. One account ist working, the other not. Great! So, I tried option #1 and it fixed Gmail and Comcast issues. Basically, you skipped the authentication step when setting up the outgoing emails, so you're sending an email that connects to a server with no credentials, hence the "unable to send" message. This is a bit more advanced and you'll probably want to backup your Mac (or at least the Accounts.plist file) before modifying anything here: Quit out of the Mail app From Gmail Outgoing Mail Server Mac Carefully note down the name of the certificate. Re-added the account, and then renamed the server in the SMTP Server List so that it wouldn't just be called Gmail.
