If this is your first visit, be sure to check out the FAQ. OK, so I'm going to fix this by having this run as root out of cron, but for some reason I cannot set the permissions on .gvfs as root. At the very least, it looks like gvfs information needs to be added to the default SELinux policy.
I tried unmounting/disconnecting my external hard drive and shutting down my samba server. Both receive a permission denied. FUSE is a way to implement filesystem drivers as user code (instead of kernel code). No user except the owner can read.
